A Legacy of Excellence
University Founded
Grand Lakes University opened its doors to its first class of 212 students, chartered by the Michigan Legislature as the state's flagship research institution.
Great Lakes Research Institute
GLU founded the Great Lakes Research Institute, launching a century of landmark environmental science and shaping federal water-quality standards still in use today.
College of Engineering
With backing from Michigan's auto industry, GLU launched its College of Engineering. Within a decade it ranked among the top ten public engineering programs in the country.
Business School Recognized
The GLU School of Business received national accreditation and established the Michigan Center for Entrepreneurship, fueling a generation of Midwest founders.
